Main St. Spooktacular brought Cornwall together

Michael Jackson, Santa Claus, Helen Roper, a box of donuts, a dog who believes he is sheriff, princesses, witches, Power Rangers, blue people, skeletons, dinosaurs, and even The Pope were spotted at Spooktacular on Main St. this year – the annual Halloween extravaganza hosted by the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce.

Main St. was closed the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 25 for the event, which was held under brilliant blue skies and drew a large crowd.

Chamber of Commerce President Scott Teresi was pleased with the day.
“Our local shops were at the heart of the afternoon. Main Street businesses joined in, welcoming costumed families and helping turn downtown into one big neighborhood celebration. It was a reminder that the businesses we visit every day are run by our neighbors, and they show up for this community.”

At 3:45 p.m., the Howl & Prowl Parade stepped off from Torrey Lane toward the Circle. Pets led the way, followed by pets marching with their children, then children and groups. Marchers finished back on Bridge Street with music, cookies and juice.

This year’s costume contest winners were: Scariest - Joseph Pitt as the Killer Deer; Most Beautiful - Flora and Isla as the Pink Ladies; Most Creative - Mia and Mason Dicola as Pope John Paul and Madonna; Most Original Family - The Clark Family as the Hocus Pocus crew; and Best in Show - The Kraus Family and their dogs as Harry Potter.

“What made the day special was not any one costume,” Teresi added. “It was the energy: neighbors greeting neighbors and kids comparing outfits. Small towns like Cornwall thrive when people come out, walk the street and see each other face to face. That is what the Spooktacular is all about, and it is what makes Cornwall such a special place to live.”

He thanked sponsors: Cornwall Arms Hotel (Howl & Prowl sponsor), Rocky Bagel (parade sponsor), DG Market (candy sponsor) and Prima Pizza and Good Books (prize sponsors).

“Thank you as well to the volunteers who made the day possible. Your support keeps Main Street lively and brings families downtown,” Teresi said. “See you next Halloween!”
