Halloween curfews will be in effect Friday and Saturday nights in the City of Newburgh and the towns of Newburgh and New Windsor, with officials citing concerns about the safety of young people and the protection of property.

In the City of Newburgh, the City Council approved Resolution No. 235-2026, establishing a citywide curfew for minors 16 and younger from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The curfew takes effect Friday, Oct. 30, and remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.

Exceptions may be made for minors accompanied by a parent or guardian, those traveling to or from employment, and those involved in an emergency.

In the Town of Newburgh, Supervisor Gil Piaquadio has proclaimed a townwide curfew on door-to-door trick-or-treating and other outdoor Halloween activities outside the hours of 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31.

Piaquadio urged parents and guardians to inform their children of the restrictions and supervise their activities to help ensure the safety of young people and property owners.

The Town of New Windsor also has enacted a curfew for minors under 18 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, ending at 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. The restrictions prohibit minors from congregating on public streets or on public or private property without the owner's permission. Trespassing on town property is also prohibited, except for participation in organized town activities.

Officials in all three municipalities are urging parents and guardians to make sure children understand and follow the restrictions.
