William “Bill” Griffin Orlando, 81, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Venice Hospice House in Venice, FL with the love and support of his family.
He was born on October 4, 2944 in Arlington, VA. Bill graduated from Cornwall Central High School in 1963, graduated from Orange County Community College, graduated from the University of South Florida in 1969 and graduated from Florida State University in 1971.
William was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful friend and a man with a wonderful sense of humor and charming spirit. His warm personality and ability to make people laugh made him unforgettable. He formed many lasting friendships throughout his life and was deeply loved by those who knew him.
Family was at the heart of William’s life. From his first marriage to Joan (Kazaros) Wetter in 1971, he was blessed with three children Jeff Orlando, Brian Orlando and Jaclyn Orlando, of whom he was immensely proud. He was also a loving grandfather to Louisa Orlando and a devoted brother to Mary Linda Orlando.
He shared a profound and devoted love of his wife, Wenda Rae Orlando, whom he married in 2002. During the final years of her life, Bill remained steadfastly by her side, faithfully visiting her and making sure she was cared for. After her passing on August 7, 2023, he continued to carry her memory with him.
Faith was the cornerstone of William’s life, and his devotion to his church was reflected in the many ways he served others. He participated in Grief Share, where he found fellowship and support while also helping others navigate their own journeys of loss. He led Bible study classes and willingly gave his time wherever he was needed, including helping with church responsibilities behind the scenes. His church community was an important part of his life, and the friendships and connections he made there were very meaningful to him.
Throughout his career in vocational rehabilitation, William found purpose in helping people return to meaningful work and recognize their own abilities and potential. His work reflected his genuine desire to help others build productive and fulfilling lives. A proud Florida State University graduate, he remained a lifelong FSU football fan and loved cheering on the Seminoles. He also enjoyed watching Laurel and Hardy and never lost his appreciation for a good laugh.
Those who knew William will remember his humor, charm, kindness and unmistakable personality. He leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, friendships and memories that will be cherished by his family, friends and those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed.
