The Great Community Give Back, held Oct. 17, is a day dedicated to meaningful, service-oriented experiences.
In celebration, the Marlboro Free Library is partnering with other Ulster County libraries to collect nonperishable food items through Oct. 17. Items dropped off at the library will be donated to the town’s local food pantry in time for the holidays.
School News and Events
Students in Brian Barbulean’s Public Policy Analysis and Engaged Citizenship courses recently volunteered at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York in Montgomery.
On Sept. 29, Marlboro High School students Laila Vega, John Caleb Corrado, Nidhi Patel, Gianna Jarvis, Aiden Cummings and Bianca Rivieccio spent time sorting, packing and preparing food for distribution to help support their local community.
St. Mary’s Church
Faith Formation begins Oct. 11 at 9:45 a.m. for elementary students and Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. for middle school students. The first class will give parents an opportunity to receive information, register children who have not yet been registered and enjoy some activities as the new year gets organized.
The parish office is now located in the small house across from the hall. October office hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Vet2Vet Coffee Hour
Fridays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, and Nov. 6, 13, 20 and 27, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Organized in collaboration with Vet2Vet of Ulster County and the Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration, the Veteran Coffee Hour provides a safe and welcoming space for veterans to connect, share experiences and find support from fellow service members.
Whether recently discharged or a seasoned veteran, all are welcome to attend and enjoy meaningful conversations over a cup of coffee.
MFL Hook and Needle: Knitting and Crocheting Group
Oct. 5, 19 and 26, and Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Knitting and crocheting enthusiasts are invited to an informal meetup to socialize, share tips and work on projects together.
The meetup is self-led, and guided instructions and supplies will not be provided.

Friday Inspirations — Paint a Flower Pot
Fridays, Oct. 9, 16 and 30, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the community room.
Enjoy a casual painting activity for art lovers and create whimsical pots for your houseplants. The program will be led by Laura Leigh.
Weekly Recipe
Maple-Pecan Baked Brie Bites
Prep time: 15 minutes
Bake time: 12-15 minutes
2 sheets refrigerated crescent-roll dough, cut into 24 small pieces
½ cup finely chopped pecans
⅓ cup dried cranberries
¼ cup pure maple syrup
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Fresh rosemary, finely chopped, for garnish
Heat the oven to 375 F. Grease a 24-cup mini muffin pan. Cut the crescent-roll dough into 24 squares. Press one square into each muffin cup.
Place a piece of Brie in each cup. Top with pecans, dried cranberries, a small drizzle of maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the pastry is golden and the Brie is melted. Cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with rosemary. Serve warm.
For another seasonal variation, substitute apple butter or cranberry sauce for the maple syrup.
