At last week’s Cornwall-on-Hudson Village Board meeting, Water Department Superintendent Daniel Nye reported the Water Department has been having electrical issues with the variable frequency drive motor.
Nye reached out to the person who installed the VFD when upgrades at the well field and the well building were completed. He ran some tests and everything checked out okay except the wiring to the motor. The recommendation was to pull the well so he can take a look at the connections at the bottom.
Work will be conducted in house and will require pulling 70 feet of casing out of the ground so the wire can be checked. Nye said the department will save roughly $25,000 by doing the work in-house.
In some other matters of business from the meeting:
New vehicle. The board approved the purchase of a 2026 Chevy Tahoe for Nye after requested quotes revealed a new vehicle cost about the same as a used one with 50,000 miles. The 2017 Tahoe, which is in need of extensive repairs, will be purchased through the village’s general fund, for $2,500, and transferred to the building inspector. The building inspector’s current vehicle will be returned to the fire department.
Water bill. Following negotiations, the village accepted $18,000, from the Town of Cornwall, for a past-due water bill as a result of a leak found on the Town Hall property by the police station and Historical Society building. The leak went undetected for about 30 days.
Plaque. The board approved the purchase of a bronze plaque to recognize the generous contribution by a former village resident. The name of the individual is currently being kept under wraps.
Election. The village election will be held from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on March 16, at Village Hall. On the ballot will be the two-year position of mayor and two four-year terms for trustee.
Title search. The Palisades Interstate Parks Commission is interested in taking over the access road, located by the Rt. 218 gate, which leads to the New York City water shaft. The village will be engaging a title company to conduct a title search to determine if it owns a portion of the access road.
