New Windsor’s plans for a new water filtration plant at Stewart International Airport moved forward after state and county health officials approved plans for a large concrete water storage tank.
The Town Board received and filed approvals from the New York State Department of Health and Orange County Department of Health at its Oct. 7 meeting for the installation of a 162-foot-diameter concrete tank as part of the project’s first phase.
The new facility is intended to replace the town’s aging water treatment infrastructure, which Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti said is in poor condition.
“We’re moving forward to bring us a new plant because our other plant is aging and it is in bad shape,” Bedetti said.
The approvals cover plans and specifications for the storage tank, rather than completion of the treatment plant. A timeline for construction and completion of the new facility has not yet been announced.
