Film crew making Hallmark movie magic in region

Village of Maybrook Mayor Dennis Leahy as well as the Main Line Diner will grace television screens as part of a Hallmark Channel mystery movie called “Redemption in Cherry Springs.”

Filming took place at the diner on June 14. In the film, Main Line was known as Uncle Joe’s Diner. Leahy was asked to appear in the film by the casting director and can be seen in two scenes as an extra.

“It was a great experience and I spoke to the director and producer who both loved their experience in the Village of Maybrook,” Leahy said. “It’s always great to get positive happenings in our village and I welcome more.”

The plot of the film follows an investigative reporter named Melanie. She returns to her hometown of Cherry Springs to discover someone has been murdered. The film’s producer Summer Crockett Moore confirmed that Cherry Springs is a fictitious town, which will most likely be set in either Upstate New York or Maryland.

The majority of the movie was filmed in Newburgh with parts also filmed in Beacon, Maybrook and Middletown. Moore noted that filming was completed Friday and the movie is now in post-production.

Moore along with her husband Tony Glazer manage Umbra Sound Stages. Their production company Choice Films has an office in Newburgh. They specifically wanted to film a production in the Mid-Hudson Region, as that is where they are based.

“We met with Hallmark about a year and a half ago and spoke to them about bringing projects to the Hudson Valley based from where we are,” Moore said. “This is their first project and they loved it and they want to come back and do more.”

Moore added that viewers have a lot to look forward to once the film airs.

“It has an incredibly diverse cast,” she said. “It is a wonderful mystery. There were over 200 local background and core cast members that were cast from the area.”
Furthermore, Moore was pleased with the inclusion of Leahy in the film.

“He spent the whole day with us. He’s such a delight, he fit right in,” she said. “I was like you should be starring in this movie.”

The film will premiere in September on the Hallmark Channel.
