Mount’s CMA Gallery to host opening reception for student exhibition ‘Architectura’
Mount Saint Mary College’s CMA Gallery will host an opening reception for its newest exhibition, Architectura, on Thursday, October 22, beginning at 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
The CMA Gallery is located on the first floor of Aquinas Hall on the Mount campus, 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550. The reception and gallery are free and open to the public. For more information, contact cma-gallery@msmc.edu.
The show will run through December 1.
Presented as part of Newburgh’s citywide Archtober celebration, the exhibition brings together student perspectives interpreting local built heritage, preservation, and urban change across two distinct design cohorts.
In Two-Dimensional Design, students interpret Newburgh architecture through the lens of fundamental design shapes – the square, circle, and triangle.
In Graphic Design History, students present works exploring the realities of a city in flux through layered theoretical meanings, utilizing halftones and grid structural elements that allude to design fundamentals, architectural preservation, and community identity.
The CMA gallery was created in 2019 as a professional artist space to exhibit media picked by Mount faculty from among regional creators and student practitioners across Newburgh, Beacon, and the Hudson Valley.
The Mount’s Communication, Media, and Art (CMA) programs encompass the study of digital media production and graphic design. CMA also offers minors in each of these disciplines, as well as in art, journalism, and film studies. CMA programs prepare students for both traditional and emerging professions.
