After more than 24 years of service to the Wallkill Central School District, Superintendent Kevin Castle has announced he will retire effective at the close of business on Oct. 3, 2025.
Castle, who made the announcement during the May 21 Board of Education meeting, became emotional as he addressed the board.
In a letter to the Wallkill community, Castle reflected on his journey with the district, beginning as an assistant principal before becoming the middle school principal. He later served as assistant superintendent for nine years and has held the position of superintendent for the past 12 years.
Calling the decision “bittersweet,” Castle wrote that his journey with the district “has been nothing short of extraordinary.” He thanked the many individuals and the supportive community who stood by him throughout his career, especially his administrative assistant of 17 years, Kelli Corcoran.
“I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated administrators, teachers and support staff,” Castle wrote. “We have accomplished so much, and I am truly proud of all that we have achieved to advance the education and well-being of our students. Together, we made a difference.”
Castle also thanked students, parents, the community, and the Wallkill Board of Education. He expressed deep gratitude to his wife, Doreen, and their children, Lyndsay, Ryan and Chad, for their support.
“As I prepare to begin this new chapter of my life, I remain committed to ensuring a seamless transition and to supporting the district in every way possible during this period,” Castle wrote. “Wallkill CSD will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to cheer for its continued success. Panther Pride will always remain within me!”
In response to Castle’s retirement, the board announced several leadership changes:
• Anthony White will become the next superintendent of schools effective Oct. 4, 2025. An official letter will be sent out at that time.
• Brian Masopust will begin serving as assistant superintendent for educational services on Oct. 4, 2025. Beginning July 1, he will be reassigned to the District Office to support administrative transitions.
• Alyssa Greany will become the next principal of Wallkill Senior High School effective July 1. Greany began her teaching career at the high school and previously served as assistant principal. She is currently the principal of Clare F. Ostrander Elementary School.
The district also announced that it will post principal vacancies for both Clare F. Ostrander Elementary School and Plattekill Elementary School on May 22. The goal is to have new principals in place by Aug. 1.
District officials said their top priority is finding individuals who align with Wallkill’s beliefs, values and mission. They also emphasized that the Board of Education and school community are committed to ensuring a smooth leadership transition in the fall.
