John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892)

Welcome to the golden month of October. Brilliant colors of myriad leaves and brisk autumn air invite us to leisurely stroll through farmers markets, fragrant with sweet apple pies, and to drink pumpkin spice lattes and eat apple cider doughnuts — autumnal blessings galore!

The anticipation of Jack Frost’s arrival warns us to grab our woolens and wrap our fingers around hot mugs of coffee. This is the month of abundance and bounty we have been given, reminding us to share with others.

Join VoicesUnited4Change at Algonquin Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, from noon to 2 p.m. for its Fall Family Gathering.

“Autumn is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to celebrate the season with our community!” organizers said.

The completely free afternoon will offer families an opportunity to connect, relax and have fun. Activities include lunch, face painting, crafts and games for all ages.

The event is for families with children ages 10 to 15 or families with children who have a mental health concern.

Space is limited. RSVP by emailing rebekah@voicesunited4change.org.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Patricia 195, will hold its Annual National CDA Day Mass and Brunch on Sunday, October 18.

Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta/St. Francis of Assisi Church. A delicious and healthy brunch buffet will follow at Temple Hill Tavern Restaurant, 171 Temple Hill Road, Vails Gate. A cash bar will be available.

The cost is $30. Include your name, payment and the number of guests. Make checks payable to “Court Patricia 195” and mail to Elaine DeCrosta, P.O. Box 170, Marlboro, NY 12542.
RSVP by October 15. For questions, call 845-590-1499.

You are invited to the Precious Paws Bingo Bash on Sunday, October 25, from 1 to 6 p.m., presented by American Legion Post 1796, 29 Walnut Street, New Windsor.

All proceeds will benefit Precious Paws Inc., a volunteer-staffed, no-kill nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing stray cats and kittens in Orange County.

Prizes donated by supporters mean every game of bingo is a chance to win something special while helping the cats of Precious Paws.

Tickets are $45 each and include 10 game cards, snacks, prizes and a cash bar. RSVP is required.
For more information or to RSVP, call 845-728-2276 or visit preciouspawsny.org.

May you always have an angel at your side.
