Upstate Art Weekend was a success

Cornwall participated in this year’s upstate art weekend with a town-wide celebration of public art, featuring six artists and sculptures installed at seven locations throughout the village and town. The event was curated by Karin Bravin of Bravin Lee programs and hosted by the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce.

The weekend began with a lively, ticketed Cocktail Party held on Bridge St. The opening night gathering brought together community members, artists, and visitors to celebrate the start of the event. Sponsors of the evening included Rocky Bagel, Hudson/Main investors, and Clark and Associates, with catering provided by Truly Scrumptious.

One of the most popular features of the weekend was a self-guided sculpture tour.

Many attendees began their tour on Bridge St. where maps were distributed and continued on to explore the artwork displayed around Cornwall. The self-guided tour allowed visitors to enjoy the art at their own pace while discovering different parts of the town and village. A map of sculpture locations is available online at cornwallchamber.org, and printed postcard-sized maps can be found at most local businesses.

Several sculptures are especially striking when viewed at night including installations at the Quaker Meeting House, the gazebo at Rings Pond, and the library end of the pond on Little League Road. Residents and visitors are encouraged to view these works after sunset to experience their full impact. The installations at the Friend’s House and the gazebo were only to be displayed for a short time.

The event was co-chaired by Buffy Heldt and Eileen Hartmann of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce. Organizers expressed their appreciation for the community’s support and enthusiasm and look forward to future art initiatives in town. Gratitude to Bravin Lee Programs and the artists curated for this exhibit. Alison McNulty, Jack Henry, Michele Brody, Aurora Robson, Michael Wolf and Vivien Collens.

“We hope everyone takes time to see the sculptures and enjoy the diversity of the artwork on display,” said the co-chairs as in a joint statement.
