Last night, Ulster County Comptroller, March Gallagher, won re-election to serve her first full four-year term as Ulster County Comptroller. Gallagher was first elected to the position in 2019 when she ran to fill a vacancy.
“I’m proud of all we’ve accomplished over the last two years in terms of improving transparency and accountability in county government,” Gallagher said. “I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Ulster County, and to highlighting quality of life issues such as housing, mental health services, and the cost of hosting the New York City watershed.”
Since Gallagher took office as County Comptroller in January, 2020, her office has made county finances available to the public by creating a Taxpayer Checkbook and lists of all county contracts approved. She released the first ever Ulster County Popular Annual Financial Report, and, under Gallagher’s leadership, the Comptroller’s Office released audits resulting in significant savings for the Ulster County jail and the collection of occupancy tax from short-term rental properties
She recently released a list of recommendations to the Ulster County IDA, as well as a snapshot of Emergency Housing in the county. She has also been working to uncover potential issues with the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency and its processes.
