A second alarm was called Monday evening after firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 104 Cedar Ave. at about 5:40 p.m. Oct. 19.

New Windsor Fire Department Car 2 arrived and reported an active garage fire, prompting the second alarm. Vails Gate, City of Newburgh, Cornwall, West Point, Cornwall-on-Hudson and Good Will/Salisbury Mills fire departments were called to assist or stand by.

At the 10-minute mark, firefighters reported fire in the second floor and attic, with two lines in operation. Central Hudson was called to the scene to disconnect power.

After 20 minutes, heavy fire was reported throughout the structure, with two lines still operating. At 30 minutes, firefighters had knocked down the bulk of the fire and began opening up the structure. At the 40-minute mark, crews remained on two lines and were conducting extensive overhaul operations.

New Windsor police blocked off the area, while New Windsor EMS, fire inspectors and the deputy Orange County fire coordinator responded. West Point firefighters were later released.

The Red Cross was notified. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
