Rail Trail to get a sealcoating

Posted

The stretch of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail that runs between Walden and Wallkill will get a fresh sealcoating sometime this spring.

The Montgomery Town Board, at last week’s meeting, approved the expenditure of $5,300 for the job, scheduled to take place in late April or early May - whenever the temperature remains above 50 degrees.

Shaun Meres, Town of Montgomery Highway Superintendent, said the town will coordinate with the Town of Shawangunk to seal the entire 4.3 mile stretch of the trail, which runs from Route 208 in the hamlet of Wallkill to Route 52 in the Village of Walden. Meres said the town is responsible to maintain the section in the Village of Walden, while the Town of Shawangunk will contribute to the maintenance of that portion of the trail within its boundaries.
