Raiders beat Monticello for the second time

Maddie Zdeb – a senior – scored one of the two goals that took the O’Neill Raiders to a 2-0 victory over Monticello on senior night (October 8) at Waldo Wood Field. Raider Edi Bundt – a junior – scored the other goal. Zdeb’s goal was in the second half, Bundt’s was in the first.

In goal, Aislinn Fallon had three saves; in the Monticello net, keeper Indrya Lopez Velez had twelve saves.
Ten seniors were honored prior to the game, for which the Raiders were dressed in pink.

The action was on both ends of the field. While Raiders Emery Deekens (#5), Madlyn August (#6) and Marin Conkey (#3) stood strong in front of goal, Monticello’s Madelyn Cavello (#11) challenged them the whole game. In front of the Monticello net, Majaylin Dixon battled Shylah Guy for the ball at every opportunity.
An interesting note – while the Raider Coach Kristin Leska had a full bench to be subbed in and out during the game, Monticello had just three players on their bench.

Back on September 22, the Raiders beat Monticello 6-2, at Monticello. Zdeb and Bundt scored in that game, too, as did Haley Mitroka twice (with three assists), and Conkey and Kaelyn Mitroka, with one each. Fallon was in goal for that game too and had eight saves. For Monticello that night, goalie Lopez Velez had 18 saves.

The Raiders were 8-2 after the last week’s game, but on Saturday travelled to Rhinebeck High School for a noon game. On Tuesday (October 13) they took on Beacon and on Thursday (October 15) they play Port Jervis, both also on the road.
