Heroes, Cowboys, & Companions, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Orange and Ulster counties’ heroes, teamed up with Southern Catskill Anglers for its latest Salute Saturday event on August 15. At 10 a.m., attendees of all ages gathered at SCA’s pond in Pine Bush and learned about fly fishing. They spent the next few hours casting their lines into the water and reeling in several fish. SCA provided the equipment and instructions, while HCC provided refreshments to keep cool during the afternoon. Overall, everyone had a great time fishing, regardless of how successful they were.

“It was a beautiful day with some amazing people. There were a lot of smiles and laughs!” said Jacque Transmeier, co-founder of HCC, on August 1. “We provided coffee, water, lemonade, pastries, fruit & hard boiled eggs for people to enjoy throughout the day. Southern Catskill Anglers talked about fishing and how to fly fish, then offered guidance one on one. They also had regular fishing available.”
