Pine Bush board reviews vision, mission statements

Posted

Stressing engagement and collaboration, Pine Bush school district Superintendent Joseph Lenz presented revisions of the district’s vision and mission statements at the school board’s August 18 meeting.

The vision statement reads in part: “We will lead and support others in making a positive impact in the world.” Lenz said it asks students “to lead in everything you do.”

The mission statement calls for the district to “develop and strengthen relationships that result in teamwork that affect positive change.”

“It takes relationships to get things done,” Lenz said.

“Love it,” said Kristi Kheiralla in response to Lenz’ extensive take on the statements that build on the district’s previous declarations.

Lenz said that the opening of the school year for teachers and staff will reverse previous such schedules with the first day, August 27, allowing for teachers to prepare their plans and classrooms. The next day will include a presentation by Brian Mendler, a motivational speaker in classroom management and student engagement.

Lenz also discussed a change in regulations regarding the athletic team tryouts. Coaches will make their decisions on athletes’ performances on the day of tryouts, no longer using the Tanner Scale, which was based on physical development. Lenz said Athletic Director Jen Evans has already advised coaches of this change.

The first day of school was September 1.

The board will next meet September 8.
