Newburgh Free Academy girls’ soccer forward Marina Parodo was named a third-team all-state all-star by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Association for Girls Sports.

She was also named to the All-Section 9 team and, along with teammates Bryanna Foti and Sarai Rodriguez was named to the Section 9 Class AA team.

Parodo was one of the Goldbacks’ top offensive threats with 20 goals and seven assists. She also came up big when her team needed her most, as seven of those goals were game winners.

Parodo can score with both of her feet, but she is strongest with her left. She is also one of the fastest players on the team.

“Having Marina on the field means that our opponent has to change the way they play to defender her,” Newburgh coach Dave Doulin said. “She routinely gets double teamed and that creates space for her teammates.”
