John S. Lunney, a lifelong resident of Bullville, peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. He was 81 years old.
John was born on July 28, 1945 in Middletown, NY, to Arthur T. Lunney and Edith Maier Lunney of Bullville, NY. He was a graduate of Pine Bush, Class of 1963. John was a standout athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball for the Bushmen. He joined the family business, Lunney's Service Station, Five Corners in Bullville. After more than 45 years in business, he retired in 2012.
John was a founding member of the Bullville Fire Company involved for three decades. His greatest loves in life were his family and the game of baseball. He served as Pine Bush Little League Vice President and cherished the opportunity to coach his son's teams. John was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for trains.
John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet Ames Lunney, his three children; Andrea Lunney of Castle Rock, CO, Veronica O'Donnell (Kevin) of Pine Bush, NY, and John S. Lunney Jr. (Jackie) of Pearl River, NY, and his five granddaughters; Mia, Leah, Lily, Bridget, and Ciara.
