By Lori Jiava, Former Town Supervisor, Town of Wappinger
Public service is more than holding an elected position. It is about integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to the people one serves. Throughout his years of service to the Town of Newburgh, Scott Manley has demonstrated these qualities.
From his years serving in the Town of Newburgh Police Department to his tenure as a Town Councilman, Scott has devoted much of his professional life to the community he calls home. His experience reflects an understanding of municipal government, the importance of public safety, and the responsibility that comes with representing the interests of residents and taxpayers.
During my tenure as Town Supervisor of the Town of Wappinger, I had the opportunity to work collaboratively with Scott on matters involving the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s aqueduct shaft project connecting our communities. These interactions gave me an opportunity to appreciate his thoughtful approach to complex municipal issues, his willingness to listen, and his attention to the concerns of those affected by government decisions.
One of the qualities I have always valued in public officials is the ability to listen before speaking, understand before deciding, and recognize that every taxpayer dollar represents the hard work of the people who contribute it. In my experience, Scott understands these responsibilities. He recognizes that responsible fiscal stewardship and improving the quality of life for residents are not competing priorities, but obligations that must go hand in hand.
What stands out to me about Scott is his accessibility, his commitment to the community, and his understanding that public office is ultimately a position of public trust. His years of service, both in law enforcement and in municipal government, reflect a longstanding relationship with the people of Newburgh.
Having served in various capacities of municipal leadership myself, I recognize the demands, challenges, and personal commitment that accompany public service. I appreciate those who approach that responsibility with sincerity, preparation, and respect for the residents they serve.
Scott Manley’s record of community involvement and public service deserves recognition. I am pleased to share my respect for his dedication and the contributions he has made to the Town of Newburgh.
