Ruffling the colors of the forest leaves,
The winds make music as they come and go.”

School children always look forward to their annual Fire Prevention Week visit from the highly respected and courageous firefighters in every single firehouse in our area. Life-saving and fire safety demonstrations are presented to eager girls, boys, and teachers who are all eyes and ears, watching and listening intently to every word during this superb educational program!
From the time they are toddlers, students learn that smoke rises and to stop, drop, and roll if they are near fire and get out after alerting others in the home. Already there have been too many fires in our neighborhood, so always have a fire plan for escape.
The most important message, “Never go back into the house for any reason, whatsoever!” Many dangers hide in kitchens especially around stoves and appliances. Just around the corner, many of us will be turning on spooky holiday lights. Don’t overload electrical outlets!
Safety precautions include installing smoke detectors on every floor, including sleeping areas, and don’t forget to check carbon monoxide detectors twice a year, typically when we change our clocks, making sure they are working.
