Highland Middle School Grade 8 students had the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom during a field trip to the Highland Fire District Headquarters on September 30.
Throughout the visit, students participated in a variety of hands-on activities designed to introduce them to fire science, firefighting, and fire safety. They learned about the science behind fire prevention, behavior, and response while also gaining firsthand experience with some of the equipment and tools used by firefighters.
Students practiced using firefighting equipment, tried out tools used during emergency responses, and had the chance to suit up in protective gear. Members of the Highland Fire District were also on hand to answer questions and share insights into the responsibilities and rewards of serving as a volunteer firefighter.
The field trip provided students with an engaging way to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications while learning about the important role volunteer firefighters play in protecting and serving their community.
