The Town of Highlands will host its fourth annual Electronic Waste Collection event on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the municipal lot across from Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls.

There is no charge to drop off any of the following materials: computers/laptops, monitors, printers/copiers, televisions, VCRs/DVD players, scanners, copper scraps, barcode scanners, video game machines, smart watches, power supplies, stereo equipment, telephones, cameras, tablets, aluminum components, phone systems, circuit boards, ipods/PDAs, modems, fax machines, cords/wires, networking gear, computer accessories, ultrasound units, defibrillators.

Not accepted are batteries, lithium products, light bulbs or lamps, kitchen appliances, toner cartridges, mercury-containing devices, dehumidifiers, paints, liquids or powders, CPAP or BiPAP machines, E-cigarettes or vapes, smoke detectors, freon-containing devices, hazardous materials, solar panels or washing machines.

It is a drive-through event.

Back on October 24, Orange County hosted a successful Hazardous Waste Collection event in Highland Falls, with 272 vehicles recorded throughout the day dropping off everything from old motor oil to no-longer-needed prescription medications to paints, chemicals and other waste.

On the Orange County Government Facebook page, county officials said “Thanks to the efficient check‑in process and the excellent work of our EF&S crew, the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Residents also took advantage of the beautiful fall weather to participate in seasonal cleanup, making the day even more productive for the community. A special thank you to the Highland Falls Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for their support and partnership.”

Highland Falls Mayor Jim DiSalvo agreed, saying “This last weekend Orange County sponsored a Hazardous Waste collection day in Highland that allowed for hazardous waste materials to be collected and processed properly. Thank you to all our county partners including the Department of Public Works, Sheriff Paul Arteta, County Executive Steve Neuhaus and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation!
