Back in 1986 readers of the Cornwall Local got a glimpse into the future – a simple photo of two young entrepreneurs, Rory Gage and Gerard LaMoth hosting a lemonade sale near the Cornwall-on-Hudson bandstand.
On October 18, 2026, just about half a mile down the road from the bandstand, an anniversary party took place – the tenth anniversary of Gage’s ‘Ror’s Recycling’ business. It was a business dream realized.
Gage, the son of Lynn and Jerry Gage, is a lifelong community resident, first in Cornwall-on-Hudson and now in Cornwall. Gage, obviously meant to be a businessman, will tell you clearly and concisely that he is disabled. He’s a Northeastern University graduate who went on to survive nine brain surgeries, a stroke and epilepsy diagnosis. Because of that, he is exceptionally proud of what he has accomplished.
The business? Once a month he’ll pick up your recyclable cans and bottles, and do the work of cashing them in. He works with a select group of “very valued clients”, and it was with those people – friends and family - that he celebrated at Village Pizza recently. Fun fact: Gage was Village Pizza’s very first pizza delivery person, at age 16! He recalls earning $2 per hour plus $1 per pizza delivered and tips.
He’s most proud of his good customer service – “Every December I mail each of my very valued clients holiday letters thanking them and wishing them a happy holiday season,” he said. Many were at the anniversary celebration.
“We had a great time at the party,” Gage said, “it was very validating. It’s been quite a journey, I like to say, ‘blood sweat and ror’s’, but a lot of fun to say the least.”
