The Maturely Motivated Players – Candy Pittari, Ginny Borton, Ralph Bowers and Gail Fluer – made a return engagement to the Highland Falls Library on September 19, delighting several dozen people in the audience with their oh-so-true takes on modern life.
Called ‘Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries’, they tackled subjects like eating eggs: “Good for you, or not?” and “Egg white omelets are tasteless.” There was even a recipe for a good egg salad thrown out.
Another topic? Travel. “Are compact car parking spaces discrimination against the size of your car?” “Who keeps the keys to the plane? Maybe that’s what those delays on the ground are sometimes – the captain leaves the keys in his apartment. Maybe they keep them in one of those magnetic boxes somewhere under the wing?”
And a third was technology. “I am terrified of having to upgrade – upgrades are rarely easier or better. And if you have to call tech support? That will surely wreck your day.”
A common theme? “Baby boomers cannot keep learning new things – and we don’t want options! There are 60 buttons on my television remote, and I use six of them.”
The doctor’s office waiting room came up – “You’re sitting there with your little magazine, pretending you’re reading it but you’re really looking at the other people wondering what they’ve got. Then they finally come to get you, and you think ‘I’m finally going to see the doctor’, but you’re not – you’re going into a smaller waiting room. With no magazine.”
The program was hosted by the Friends of the Library.
