Raider tennis sends one to county play

The O’Neill varsity tennis season officially wrapped up on October 8, finishing the year with a 3-11 record across 11 matches, including five league battles, Coach Rokhsha Michael-Razi said.

The team’s first singles player, Eve Waite, headed off to the county playoffs on October 15 at the Goshen Sports Complex.

“Back in late August we started with a dedicated crew of 14 players many of whom were beginners stepping onto the court for the very first time,” the coach said. “While it is always difficult saying goodbye when West Point families move away, welcoming wonderful new military families and local residents into our tennis community is a true blessing.”

She said they had a full range of players – from “rising star” seventh grader Lily Hover, who was born in Germany and has been playing tennis for four years, to the four seniors graduating this year.

“My ultimate goal has been to provide positive stress-free hours for students to make sure their high school tennis days are filled with lasting fun memories and that they return next season for more,” the coach added.

She singled out three of her players who “made a difference in the community tennis camp we held during summer”, Madilynn Williams, Abigail Sawicki and Siena Decker.
