Leonard W. Bates, Jr., of Highland Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at Taconic Rehabilitation and Nursing at Beacon, NY. He was 86 years old. Son of the late Susan (Sedgwick) and Leonard W. Bates, Sr., he was born on June 1, 1939, in Cornwall, NY.
Leonard was a Groundskeeper for the Highland Falls Central School District in Highland Falls, NY, and a former employee of Mountain Garage Chrysler. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Highland Falls, NY.
Leonard is survived by his son Leonard “Rusty” Bates of Middletown, NY; his brothers: Franklin Bates of Walden, NY; Kenneth Bates of New Windsor, NY; and Edward Bates of Walden, NY; and by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Leonard was predeceased by his wife Wilma M. (Wilson) Bates, his daughter Dawn Marie Bates, and his brothers Raymond and William Bates.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Grace Baptist Church, 54 Old State Rd., Highland Falls, NY, between 10-11 A.M. on Saturday, June 20, 2026. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Andrew Snavely officiating, followed by interment of cremains at Peacedale Cemetery in Highland Falls, NY. Luncheon reception will follow at Grace Baptist Church in Highland Falls, NY.
Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY.
