There sure is!
A new community farm stand has opened at Donahue Farm in Cornwall-on-Hudson, offering fresh-cut flowers, vegetables from the Community Garden, and even firewood, all on a suggested-donation basis.
The idea for the farm stand came from Braden Work, a sophomore at Cornwall High School and the son of Donahue Committee chair Dave Work. He wanted to find a way to bring people to Donahue Farm while supporting the community. After getting the idea approved, he worked with the Donahue Committee and other community volunteers to design, build and organize the stand, Committee Member Phylis Murphy said this week.
All donations support the Donahue Farm Fund, which helps maintain the farm, garden and community events.
“I appreciate everyone who helped and supported the idea. It has been great seeing everyone excited about the farm stand,” Work said.
The farm stand is made possible by the Village of Cornwall-On-Hudson and the Donahue Committee, which have been working to develop the farm since the village purchased the 47-acre property in 2021 for preservation and community use. The community garden has continued to grow each season, and the farm stand is the newest addition to those efforts.
“It will go the rest of the summer and into the fall,” Murphy said, “as long as there are items to sell. It’s a really cool idea, and we all supported it.” She said the wooden stand and signage were made by Deke Hazirjian.
It’s open seven days a week, and Murphy said that on weekends there is usually someone there to tend to it, but otherwise it’s a self-serve venture. The stand is located at 42 Bayview Ave. Hours and updates are posted on Donahue Farm’s Facebook page at facebook.com/donahuefarmCOH.
The donation suggestions vary - fresh cut flowers, depending on jar size, are $5 -$10 and firewood is $10 per bundle. Cash can be left in the black lockbox to the right of the stand and there is a QR code at the stand for digital donations or use cfosrny.org/donahue-farm-fund.
