The Hudson Valley Storm fell behind early and could never recover.
The Stamford Bombers had a three-run lead before the Storm even came to the plate and were eliminated from the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League High School Division 2 quarterfinals by a 13-6 loss on Saturday at the New Windsor Little League field.
The Bombers seized control in top of the first winning when Storm pitcher Tyler Ostrander walked two of the first three batters. Then Blake Cortell launched a three-run home run to left field for a three-run first inning.
The Bombers added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning when Robby DiPetra singled home both for a 5-0 lead.
The Storm chipped away but was unable to slow Stamford’s offense, which finished with 12 hits and took advantage of eight walks. They also stole 15 bases.
Ostrander started on the mound for Storm, allowing five runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out eight and walked four. John Carvalho worked 4 1/3 innings for the Bombers, surrendering two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking three.
Ostrander also led Storm offensively, driving in two runs while going 1 for 3 from the No. 9 spot in the lineup. Quincy Rogers, Dilan Alvarado, Bradyn Nicoli, Liam Barry and Ostrander each recorded a hit for Storm.
Cortell finished 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and three walks. DiPetra paced the offense with three hits in four at-bats, while he and Joe D’Amato each had multiple-hit games.
The Storm got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bradyn Nicoli singled home Anthony Forzano. Qunicy Rogers scored the Storm’s second run when Carvalho walked Jake Cancredi with the bases loaded.
The Bombers added two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning to take a 10-2 lead, but the Storm responded with four more in the bottom of the sixth.
Dilan Alvarado singled home Rogers with the Storm’s third run, and James Rogers hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home their fourth run. Ostrander hit an RBI single and then Alvarado scored on a throw.
The Bombers added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Stamford moved on to the semifinals, where they will meet the top-seeded Stamford Thunder. The Storm finished the summer season, 10-9.
