The weather didn’t always cooperate, but the Newburgh Free Academy softball team got in its Newburgh Softball Summer Clinic last week at Newburgh Free Academy North.
The five-day clinic ran from Aug. 10-14 and brought together current and former players, varsity and junior varsity coaches, and softball players from across the Newburgh Enlarged City School District for two hours of instruction each evening.
The clinic was designed to help players improve every aspect of their game through skill development, drills, hitting instruction, and competitive activities.
Despite less-than-ideal weather during the opening days of the clinic, participants maintained their enthusiasm and energy.
After spending the first session indoors due to a late thunderstorm, players got outside for hitting drills during the clinic’s second day.
The clinic is open exclusively to students who attend schools within the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. Newburgh coach Edwin Quezada and assistant coach Stephanie Spellman, along with current varsity players led instruction, while also introducing younger athletes to the culture of the Newburgh softball program.
The program’s goal was to provide additional opportunities for players to develop their skills and build relationships with members of the Newburgh Free Academy softball program.
