David K Holt is an author, printmaker and painter living in New Paltz, New York. After a career as an art teacher and professor of education, he has published a book on aesthetics entitled The Search for Aesthetic Meaning in the Visual Arts (Bergin and Garvey, 2001), and created prints and paintings. His linocuts, silk screens and casein and acrylic paintings have been included in many national shows.
Much of his work over the past few decades stems from a series of photographs he took of the city of Newburgh, New York, which he was initially drawn to for what he calls the industrial and rougher aspects of its urban structures. Sometimes, he believes they contain the essence of their human involvement.
In addition to his more abstract urban paintings, (heavily influenced by Cubism, Futurism and American Abstraction), he has also painted realistically. He has had one man shows of his Florida landscapes. Although he has previously shown paintings of the local area, this show represents his first one man exhibit of the Shawangunks.
