Things went from bad to worse for the Hudson Valley Storm in the fourth inning.
The Storm gave up six runs in the fourth inning as the Middletown Cubs blew open the game, handing them a 16-3 loss in a Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League 14U game on Friday at New Windsor Little League.
The Storm took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning after R. J. Andreala delivered a two-run single and Nick DelCastello drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run.
The Cubs responded immediately in the second, reclaiming the lead on Angel Montalvo’s two-run single and a bases-loaded walk to Jaxon Howell. Middletown extended its lead to 6-3 in the third after a Storm error brought home another run.
Middletown broke the game open in the fourth, scoring six runs on four hits. Javian Sanchez singled home a run, Howell ripped a two-run double, Christopher Lochard added an RBI single, Jacob Soto contributed a sacrifice fly, and another Storm error accounted for an additional run.
Ryan Roohan started for Storm, allowing five runs — one earned — on one hit over two innings. He struck out three and walked five. Howell started for the Cubs, giving up three runs on two hits over two innings while striking out four and issuing eight walks.
Andreala, Roohan, Dylan Bond, Dom Santopietro and Braeden each recorded a hit for Storm. DelCastello drove in a run, while Victor Leguillow drew three walks.
Howell led Middletown offensively, going 2-fo- 2 with four RBIs. Sanchez added two stolen bases, while Dylan Iacono worked three walks.
The loss dropped the Storms’ record to 7-5-1 and they finished the regular season with a home game against the USC Prospects, while they wait to see where they land in the 14U Division 3 playoffs, which are scheduled to start this week.
