The Grand Montgomery Chamber Music series is delighted to present the NU Quintet on Sunday, January 21, at 3 p.m. The performance will take place at the Garrett Concert Stage at 36 Bridge Street, Montgomery. Admission to this event is free.

The NU Quintet, formed in 2021, aims to establish a new tradition celebrating and expanding the wind quintet. Committed to providing engaging and accessible performances to the community, NU Quintet also fosters open dialogues with audiences. The ensemble supports living composers by performing, recording, and commissioning new works, contributing to the creation of a new classical music culture focused on the voices of today.

As artists in residence at the University of Florida in 2022, NU Quintet collaborated with composition students, participated in collaborative performances with the dance program, and premiered seven bespoke works at the Harn Museum of Art. In 2023, they launched an annual Call for Scores and Nu Works concert series, receiving 117 submissions from six continents in their inaugural year.

NU Quintet frequently performs in New York City at venues such as the Flute Center of New York, Opera America, DiMenna Center, and Chelsea Market. Virtual performances and premieres by the ensemble can be found on YouTube, with upcoming projects and performances listed on their website at NuQuintet.com. The ensemble expresses gratitude for the mentorship of Adrian Morejon, the sponsorship of The Flute Center of New York, and the receipt of a 2023 Seed Money Grant from New York Women Composers, Inc.

The scheduled performances for this concert include the world premiere of Ellen Fishman’s Welcoming, O llama de amor viva by Joelle Wallach, the New York Premiere of Wings’ Whispers by Nina Siniakova; the world premiere of Rise by Eleanor Aversa and Suite for Wind Quintet by Amanda Harberg.

The concert series, now in its 36th season, was founded by Howard & Judy Garrett and is made possible by the generous support of the Village of Montgomery. Donations to support Montgomery Chamber Music are greatly appreciated, and checks can be made payable to Montgomery Chamber Music. You can mail your contributions to: Montgomery Chamber Music, Village of Montgomery, 133 Clinton Street, Montgomery.
