Viking boys win Monticello tournament

The Valley Central boys’ basketball team won the Jingle Ball Classic with a 55-49 win over the Chester Hambletonians on Saturday at Monticello High School.

Tournament MVP Armando Perez led the Vikings with 18 points and Donovan Davis had 13 rebounds and 15 points for the Vikings. Davis and Nasir Trotter were named to the all-tournament team from the Vikings.

Brandon Jenkins led the Hambletonians with 26 points and was named to the all-tournament team with Jayden Ymaya.

Monticello won the consolation game, beating the Wallkill Panthers, 74-43 behind 16 points from Jayden Berrios-Cuevas, 13 Christian Brown and 11 from Judah Brown. Christian Brown was named to the all-tournament team.

Jack Cook led Wallkill with 13 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

The Vikings opened the tournament with a 58-57 win over the Panthers, in a game that doubled as an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association contest.

Davis scored 14 points, while Trotter and Alex Myller added 11 each for the Vikings.
Christian Brown led Monticello with 35 points.

Wallkill fell, 65-44, to Chester in the other opener. Jenkins scored 15 points and Jayden Mercado added 11. Andre Jenkins and Robert Berkeley added 10 each. Cook, Miles McKenney and Mike Fanning had 10 points each for Wallkill.

The Vikings opened the week with a 56-35 win over the Minisink Valley Warriors on December 12.

Armando Prez scored 14 points and Donovan Davis added 12. Jason Murphy scored 10 points.
Louis Marrero led the Warriors with nine points.
