VC’s Aiden Kaleta qualifies in Section 9 tennis

Valley Central’s Aiden Kaleta qualified for the Section 9 tournament on May 15 when he reached the quarterfinals of Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association boys’ tennis tournament at MatchPoint Tennis in Goshen.

He was the only local player to qualify.
Kaleta was eliminated from title contention when he was beaten, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 by Kingston’s Eli Loewen.
He opened the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Beacon’s Beckett Anderson.

The Vikings’ doubles team of Sean Watson and Marco Collarelli advanced to the second round, where they were eliminated by Washingtonville’s J.P. Corini and Logan Coyman, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. They opened the tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kingston’s Peter Dong and Jerry Chen.

The Vikings’ team of Andrew Uszenski and Luke Pepaj were eliminated in the opening round by Monroe-Woodbury’s Riley Konior and Pravin Jegan, 6-0, 6-2. Andrew MacEntee and Jordan Marasco also were eliminated in the first round when they lost to James I.

The Vikings finished the season with a 9-3 record and their seven entrances in the county tournament was their strongest showing in a couple of decades, Valley Central coach Paul Berkowitz said.

The Wallkill tennis season ended in the Mid Hudson Athletic League tournament, as all three players were eliminated before reaching the quarterfinals on May 13 at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park.

Wallkill’s Tyler Depuy was eliminated from the tournament in the first round by Rondout Valley’s Ellis Picuri. The doubles team of Ryan Seal and Ben Kurpick were eliminated by Rondout Valley’s Maven Flamhaft and Finn Kenney, 6-1, 6-3.
