Wallkill earns first win with 41-0 shutout
Wallkill’s football team picked up its first victory of the season Friday, blanking Poughkeepsie 41-0 in a non-league game.
The host Panthers (1-2) built a 35-0 halftime lead before adding another touchdown in the second half.
Quincy Rogers scored two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for a touchdown. Quarterback Alex Mikesh threw touchdown passes to RJ Meyer and Anthony Daley, while Ryan Ronk added a rushing touchdown.
DJ Moore recorded three sacks for Wallkill, and Braydn Nicoli had an interception.
Wallkill will host Monticello at 7 p.m. Friday in another non-league game.
Wallkill girls tops, boys second at Mount Academy quad meet
Wallkill’s boys cross country team finished second in a four-team meet at Mount Academy, while the Wallkill girls won their two-team competition.
Mount Academy won the boys team competition with 26 points, followed by Wallkill with 51,
Wallkill’s Nathaniel Diemoz won the individual 5-kilometer race in 17:11.19, followed by teammate Ryder Kilpatrick in 17:51.88.
Baxter Bausert-Hall finished 13th in 19:39.63, Liam Larson was 21st in 21:19.92, Miles Shafer was 27th in 22:18 and Gavin Griffin was 28th in 22:29.53.
Mount Academy placed six runners among the top 10, led by Kelian Meier in third at 18:31.19. Richard Scott was fourth, Joel Horning fifth, Brandon Woolston sixth, Darvell Jeong eighth and Joseph Wright ninth.
Wallkill swept the top six places in the girls race and scored 15 points to defeat Spackenkill, which had 45.
Emma McPhillips won the race in 23:24.40, followed by Grace Boland in 23:32.99. Gabriella Leadbitter was third for Wallkill in 25:44, Taylor Zavodsky fourth in 26:12.06 and Kelsey Nelson fifth in 26:13.01.
Rory Cafarella finished sixth in 26:13.32, while Elizabeth Tansosch was seventh in 26:26.41.
Wallkill boys soccer defeats Red Hook, 4-2
Aaron Lewinsom scored two goals and added an assist for the Panthers. Trevor Tucker and Murray Clarke each scored once, while Mario Neri contributed two assists.
