Rochelle Runowich of Wallkill,  died Sunday April 18, 2021 at home. She was 80.

The daughter of the late Martin and Mildred Goldman Hochteil, she was born in the Bronx, NY. As a young woman she moved to Wallkill, where she would meet and marry her late husband, Nicholas Runowich Jr. There she would work beside him on the family dairy farm and raise their family.  

She was a member of the Wallkill Reformed Church, where she served as a member of the Women’s Guild.  She was also a member of the Friends of the Wallkill Public Library.  Rochelle was a member of the local chapter of TOPS, where she was recognized nationally for reaching and maintaining her weight goal for 30 years.

Survivors include children: Dorothy “Dottie” Miller of Gastonia, NC, Catherine Kennedy and husband, Rick of Walden, Carl Runowich and Gail Mott of Montgomery, Irene Van Deusen and husband, Lee of Ely, MN, Nicholas Runowich III and wife, Michelle, of Lexington Park, MD; granddaughters Sarah Van Deusen and fiancé, Joseph of MN, Amanda McNeill and husband, Charles of Wallkill, Colleen Runowich of MD; grandson Michael Kennedy of VA; great grandchildren Aiden, Tyler, and Wyatt McNeill; Brother Jeff Hochteil and wife, Marie of  NC. She is also survived by her many cherished nieces and nephews.  

She was predeceased by her sisters Sue, Ann, and Henrietta; and her dear friend Ann Thompson.  

The family would also like to recognize Audrey Keesler and Vicky Herzog for the friendship and adventures they shared with her since the passing of her husband. 

Visitation will be Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St, Walden.  

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Wallkill Reformed Church, 45 Bridge St, Wallkill, with Pastor Stan Seagren presiding.  

Burial will follow at St Charles Cemetery in Gardiner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Wallkill Reformed Church, PO Box 54, Wallkill, NY, Friends of the Wallkill Public Library, PO Box C, Wallkill, NY 12589, or a charity of one’s choice.
