Pearson leads Walden slate, Carley ousted

Former Walden Mayor Becky Pearson led the slate of Walden Village Candidates last Tuesday, winning her second term as a village trustee.
Pearson tallied 257 votes. She will be joined on the board by two newcomers: Bill Taylor (183 votes) and Liz Kyle (182) were also elected.
Former village trustees Jose De Jesus (162) and Cheryl Baker (146) were unsuccessful in their bids to return to the board, while current Deputy Mayor Willie Carley trailed the field with 145 votes.
Taylor is the husband of former Mayor Susan Taylor who addressed the village board last week to offer congratulations to the winners.

“All I can say is never forget that you’re representing the people of the village of Walden, that’s who you work for. No one else,” Susan Taylor said.

She also offed a quote.

“ ‘The truth does not mind being questioned. A lie doesn’t like being challenged.’ Keep that in mind as well.”

Last week’s meeting marked the final one for Trustee Patricia Maher who opted not to seek a second term.

“I’ve learned a lot from our community members and I really don’t feel like you’re not gonna see me any less or hear any less from me,” Maher said. “I think if anything you might see me a little bit more because there’s still a lot that I want to do so just because I won’t be on the board doesn’t mean I still won’t be back. I have no problem raising my hand and showing up at a meeting. Thank you to all my supporters and voters out there who did trust me to make some hard decisions. And yeah, I look forward to coming back one day.”
