PBHS principal to retire in 2025

Pine Bush High School principal Aaron Hopmayer has announced his retirement from the Pine Bush school district following the 2024-25 school year.

Hopmayer will be transitioning to principal of the STARS Academy at Pine Bush High School in July after 23 years as principal of the high school. STARS is a credit recovery program for students who have fallen behind on their graduation requirements and want to graduate with their class.

The district is looking for a new principal for the upcoming school year.

In his March 22 message, Hopmayer said he would be helping with the succession plan “to ensure that the programs that we have built together over the past two decades continue to grow and thrive.”

In addition to the STARS Academy, Hopmayer will continue to oversee the CTE Advanced Manufacturing Program, the NASA HUNCH program, the Skilled Trades Academy and the summer academy program. He said he will assist the new principal “to ensure a smooth transition.”

Hopmayer said that, together with faculty and staff, “we have made some amazing things happen for students.”

He thanked everyone for helping him “learn and grow as a leader.” He also thanked district superintendent Brian Dunn and the school board “for their vision in ensuring a smooth transition.”
