Lois Ann (Schoonmaker) Holmes, 86, of Oswego, formerly of Montgomery, entered into glory Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

Lois graduated from the Montgomery High School in 1952.  She was joined in marriage to William “Bill” Holmes on September 11, 1954 and was widowed in 2009.

Lois worked for Amy Bull Crist from her high school graduation until her marriage in 1954.  She was employed as a legal secretary by Scott, Hoyt & Drake Attorneys, of Newburgh, until 1971.  In 1971, she and her husband Bill purchased Howard’s General Store in Montgomery, NY; where they remained until the end of 1980.  Lois and Bill relocated to Northville, NY where Lois worked a number of retail clerking jobs at the Grand Union, Hallmark Gifts & Lang’s Fruit Stand (in Florida where they wintered).  In addition, Lois secured her real estate license and assisted Bill with Holmes Real Estate covering the Greater Sacandaga area.  Lois and Bill relocated again in 2005 to Oswego, NY where they lived until their passing.  Both were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Fulton, NY.

Lois is survived by her children:  Donna Shumskis of Oswego, NY, Rev. William Holmes, Jr. of Darby, PA and Nancy Schefcick of Hannibal, NY.  She is also survived by her brothers, Rev. George Schoonmaker and Rev. Wayne Schoonmaker and her sister, Mary Ellen Schultz.  In addition, she was grandmother to eleven and great-grandmother to sixteen children.

An internment service will be held on Saturday, June 5th, at the Hannibal Cemetery on Church Street.  A private memorial service to celebrate her life to follow.
