It’s been a banner season for the Valley Central girls’ soccer team.

The Vikings won their first fall Section 9 Class AA championship this season, and advanced to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournament. Their only other championship came in the 2021 post-COVID-19 season with no state tournament.

The Vikings were rewarded for their success this year with two players being named Section 9 all-stars.

Forward Samantha Setteducato was named to the all-section team, which includes players from all six classifications.

Sophia Stahl, a senior midfielder, was named to the Section 9 Class AAA/AA all-star team.

The Pine Bush girls’ team, which reached the Section 9 Class AAA championship game and was defeated by NYSPHSAA Class AAA finalist Monroe-Woodbury, had three players named sectional all-stars.

Senior midfielder Deirdre Meberg was named an all-section all-star, while sophomore forwards Ava Boffalo and Kathryn Cragan were named Class AAA all-stars.

On the boys’ side, Valley Central goalkeeper James Joyce was named a Class AA all-star after helping the Vikings to a Section 9 Class AA semifinal appearance. Wallkill’s senior defender Carson Frisbie was named to the all-section team.

Pine Bush’s Aaron Cohen was named an all-section all-star, and Imanol Florez-Sepulveda was named a Class AAA all-star.

The Chapel Field Lions won their second straight Section 9 Class D championship this season and were rewarded with two players – Mikey Bonagura and Jonah McDuffie – being named Class C/D all-stars.

Both are seniors who have been on Lions’ teams that have won two straight boys’ soccer championships.
