In our upcoming midterm elections, I want to vote for a Congress that can govern effectively and exercise its powers to restrain a runaway executive. We need representatives who will seek legislative solutions to the serious problems we face.
Congress must address the risks of AI. It must also take action to reduce pervasive political corruption in all three branches of government, starting with banning its own investment trading if we are to begin to restore trust in our institutions. It must exercise its power of the purse to reign in ICE and the illegal impoundment of congressionally approved funding. It must also use these powers to provide healthcare people can actually afford and access, affordable housing, and schools with the needed resources to educate our next generation.
We must flip the House and Senate to achieve any of these goals and move the country forward.
In our large and diverse district that means we need a representative who will listen to his constituents and seek to craft effective policy solutions, reaching across the aisle where appropriate. Our current congressman, Josh Riley, has made it his priority to fight corruption, lower utility bills and reduce costs for our rural communities. Many of his initiatives have bipartisan support. We need to get out and vote to re-elect him so that he can continue this work.
