“I’m going to my fathers house” were the last words spoken by Isabelle M. Engels as she peacefully went home to the Lord on Thursday January 31, 2019. She was 89.

The daughter of the late Walter L. Edgar and Margaret K. Watt she was born on August 1, 1929 in the Bronx, NY. Isabelle was the first woman to serve in the Town of Crawford Police Department, and was the first of her family to be born in the United States.

Isabelle was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church since 1971, was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, member of the Pine Bush Ladies Fire Dept. Auxiliary, the Orange County Pythian Sisters, parishioner of the Church of the Master Womans Group, Advocate for Organ Donation, and a NYPD Crossing Guard. Isabelle was a very loyal friend, loved by her family dearly and wanted to have them close.

She enjoyed several trips to Scotland and summers in Canada with her daughter and son in law. Isabelle was always ready to help in any situation and loved her church family. She was the glue the held her family together and the last of her generation.

Survivors include her children, Margaret Nichol and her husband Don, and Thomas Engels Jr. and his partner Lisa Adams, grandchildren, Heather Dimpfi and her husband Pat, Melody Garrido and her husband Paul, Jamie Engels, Ryan Engels, Cameron Engels, and Caileen Engels, great-grandchildren, Nazareth, Naphtali, Elder and Hattie ,sister in law, Anna Edgar, and her beloved niece Barbara Ferguson. Isabelle is predeceased by her husband Thomas W. Engels Sr. and her brother James Edgar.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday February 9, at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Thompson Ridge with Pastor Russell S. Duncan officiating. Burial of ashes will take place in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church or you can become an Organ donor.
