Council sponsoring window display contest

Wonderful news! Father Thomas Colucci has been appointed as Pastor of Most Precious Blood Parish. He has served as Administrator of M. P. B. since 2019. Following his ordination in 2016, he was Parochial Vicar of St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Fishkill 2016 - 2019. The appointment made by the Cardinal’s Office became effective July 1.

I received information from Xander Macri reflecting calls made by the Walden Fire Department for the month of August. Structure fire - 1; Assist fire - 2; Vehicle fire - 1; Request FD - 1; Automatic Alarm - 11; CO 2 alarm - 2;Motor vehicle accidents - 3; Odor investigation - 1; Public Service call - 2; Wires down - 2. Thank you to the Walden Fire Department for their service. Thank you Xander for supplying this information.

The Walden Veterans Memorial; Park Committee sends a huge Thank You to two special teens for their work at Veterans Park this summer. Julia and Joseph Burke assisted in keeping the Park neat, especially diligently weeding. The Committee truly appreciates your help.

I see it’s time to send a very special young man a Happy Birthday! On September 16, Anthony Joshua Kurisko will celebrate his 7th birthday. Family and friends are looking forward to joining in the celebration! Enjoy it all Anthony!

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their next indoor yard sale on Thursday, September 16 - 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Check out the many treasures they have for sale. Always remember - all purchases benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. For information call the shelter at 778-5115.


The United Methodist Women will meet on Saturday, September 18 at 1 p.m. at the Walden United Methodist Church property, 1206 State Route 52, Walden - weather permitting. All women of the Walden, Maybrook and Bullville churches are invited to attend. Please bring a lawn chair. A program will be presented by Betty Ann Brady, President. Karen Lendle sends word that the First Reformed Church of Walden, 70 Scofield Street, will hold their final Clothing Sale on Saturday, September 18, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Fill a Bag for $1. Please use the Church Street entrance. Thank you for participating.

On September 15, at 7:30 p.m. the Walden Historical Society will hold a regular meeting at the Jacob T. Walden House, 34 No. Montgomery Street. A. J. Schenkman, author and Town of Gardiner Historian will discuss his latest book “Patriots & Spies in Revolutionary New York.” The book is a compilation of 12 stories regarding important moments in N.Y. State history during the American Revolution. All are invited to attend. For information call Anita at 778-7772.

M. P. B, Catholic Conversations will be held on Wednesday, September 22 at 7 p.m. at the Parish House. At the August meeting the Corporal Works of Mercy as we live them every day was discussed. Walden’s 34th Annual Harvest Fest date is Saturday, September 25, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. It will be held at Bradley Park, 48 Albany Avenue, Walden. For vendor information call Debbie Robb at (845) 706-1570.

In addition to many great vendors, live music, frog jumping competition, a reptile show, jump houses, Angry Orchard Garden, Blood Drive, great food there will be a Dog Parade and much more! There will be the cutest pet contest at 12 p.m. and best costumed pet at 12:30 p.m. Each winner will receive a trophy and certificate to spoil their pups.Pre-registration is recommended. All proceeds will go to the Walden Humane Society to further assist them in the care of pets awaiting their forever homes. Members of the Walden Humane Society will be on-site with cats and dogs awaiting adoption.

The Walden Community Council is sponsoring a Fall window display contest for businesses in the Village of Walden. All VOW businesses are invited to enter. Prizes will be awarded for “Best Fall Themed” window indoor/outdoor display. Widows or store fronts must be decorated by September 25. Displays will be judged by members of the Walden Community Council the week of September 27. Winners will be announced on September 30.

The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:
Fall Toddler Story Time sign-up for ages 2½ - 5 years will begin Monday, September 20. The sessions will be every Tuesday morning, 10:30 a.m. on 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2 and 11/9. Please make sure to register ahead of time as space may be limited.

Baby Rhyme Time registration will begin on Monday, September 27. This program is for babies through 2½ years. The sessions will run on Thursday mornings, 10:30 a.m. beginning October 8 through November 4. Registration is a must.

Magic - The Gathering Club will meet on Saturday, September 18, 2 p.m. for ages 13 and up.
“Novel Reads” book discussion will feature “The English Spy” by Daniel Silva on Thursday, September 16, 6:30 p.m.
