Astronomer to prepare us for upcoming solar eclipse

Posted

Astronomer Irene Pease has presented four previous times at SUNY Orange on the stars and astronomy in light polluted areas at in-person events as well as zoom during the Covid shutdown. On Thursday March 7, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering (RCSE), Gerry Forum 010, she will give a talk on safe-guarding preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse (April 8):

Sun, Moon, and Totality: The 2024 Eclipse

Here are some of the topics that she’ll cover during the presentation:
• some basics of eclipses, and contrasting solar and lunar eclipses

• science that we can and have done with them

• tips for where and how to enjoy the 2024 eclipse (safely!)

Come to this sure-to-be informative talk and an event which celebrates Women’s History Month.

Then, on April 8, come to the Alumni Green in the center of the Middletown campus of SUNY Orange and experience the solar eclipse.
While living in Brooklyn, Pease was a member of the board of directors for the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York City and founder and CEO of Friendly Neighborhood Astronomer LLC. She presently is an Associate of the Hayden Planetarium and lives in Sullivan County where light pollution is at a minimum.

RCSE is located at 10 East Conkling Avenue, Middletown.
