24th Feller Tournament set for next week

Posted

Hudson Valley girls’ basketball teams will remember one of their own as they take part in the 24th Annual Corinne Feller Memorial Basketball Tournament at Valley Central High School on Wednesday, November 29 and Friday, December 1. The tournament will kick off the Valley Central varsity girls’ basketball season.

Four area teams, Washingtonville, Middletown, John S. Burke Catholic, and Valley Central will compete. Middletown and Burke Catholic will face off at 5:30 p.m. and Washingtonville will take on Valley Central at 7 p.m. on November 29. The consolation game will start at 5:30 p.m. on December 1 followed by the championship game which will tip off at 7 p.m.

Corinne Feller was a scholar athlete at Valley Central High School whose life was cut short by ovarian cancer at age 18. She was beloved throughout Section IX and remembered as both an outstanding player and a person who cared about the less fortunate and the environment.

Corinne’s niece, Jenna O’Connor, is currently a junior forward/center on the Valley Central team.

“We invite the community to celebrate Corinne’s life and support the young athletes in our community by coming out to the tournament,” said Ron Feller, Corinne’s father, and the tournament organizer. “It’s a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season and it’s all for a great cause!”

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Corinne Feller Scholarship Fund administered by the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan. More than $75,000 has been awarded to graduating Valley Central students in Corinne’s name since the fund was established. Online donations are also being accepted at cfosny.org/our-funds/scholarships/fellerscholarship/.

Tournament attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Montgomery Food Pantry. All-tournament and Most Valuable Player awards will be presented at the conclusion of the tournament.
