WCC celebrates National Police Week

In honor of National Police Week, on Wednesday, May 15th, the Walden Community Council delivered to our Walden Police Department three trays of cookies from Calculated Confections. The members of the Council have made this a yearly tradition to recognize our local police force and thank these officers for their service to our community.

The annual Memorial Day Parade will be celebrated on May 27th in Walden Municipal Square to honor the memory of our fallen comrades and the defenders of our Nation. The parade will line up at Veteran’s Memorial Bridge at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to Municipal Square.

The ceremony will commence at 10 a.m. and we hope that you, your family, your friends and your organization will be able to participate in this solemn event. Guest speaker will be Senior Master Sergeant Colin Phillips, Occupational Safety Manager of Wing Safety for the 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart Air National Guard Base.

Valley Central School District will observe Memorial Day school closures on Friday May 24, and Monday May 27.

The After School Program will be closed Thursday, May 23 and Monday, May 27 at Wooster Memorial Grove Park.

The Walden Rotary Club presents its 11th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, June 3, 2024 at The Country Club at Otterkill. Sponsorship opportunities are available; deadline is May 20, 2024. The proceeds go to supporting Walden Rotary Club causes such as the Montgomery Food Pantry, annual coat drive, local scholarships and many other worthy local, state, national and global causes.

Sixteenth Annual Flag Day Celebration will be held on Sunday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park, 150 West Main Street, Walden. This event is sponsored by the Walden Veterans Memorial Park Committee and Walden Community Council.

The Walden pickleball group members that have recently been meeting, celebrated a great winter and spring season picnic on Friday, May 10 at Wooster Memorial Grove Park. At the picnic, there was a raffle of pickleball items which raised $455 and was donated to the Walden Humane Society.

Village of Walden Recreation & Parks Department sends word that Pickleball at Wooster Memorial Grove Park John H. Howland Teen Center (89 E. Main St., Walden). Summer hours are Wednesdays – Session 1, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., Session 2, 12 - 3 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. 2 Courts and 12 players per session. Players under 18 must be accompanied by adult. The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:
Please note upcoming closing dates for the library: Saturday, May 25, and Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Weekend.

We will close early on Thursday, May 30, 6:00 p.m. for staff development.

The First Floor Main Circulation area will be closed for two days - June 7 and June 8, for repair and minor construction. We will have very little access to this area. Please make sure to mark those dates. The second floor will remain open.

The Walden Chess Club, Dungeons and Dragons, and the Mahjong Club are regular activities of the library. Pick up our June calendar for dates and times.
