Walden Manager working without a contract

Walden Village Manager John Revella has been working without a contract since his previous pact expired on June 1.

The manager, whose annual salary is listed as $110,000, according to the 2022-23 village budget, has not publicly complained, but the arrangement is not sitting well with a former Walden mayor.

“This board has one employee to evaluate,” said former Mayor Susan Taylor who addressed the village board last week. “I find it hard to believe you haven’t had the time to do it. I think it’s insulting that you have one employee you have to evaluate and you couldn’t get it done in this amount of time.”

Walden Trustee Patricia Maher said delays in evaluating employees is normal at Fortune 500 companies.

“From my experience that seems to be the norm,” Maher said.

Trustee Lynn Thompson disagreed.

“This is not a Fortune 500 company,” Thompson said. “I’ve been on this board for three terms. The manager’s contract has never been this late. As a nurse, our evaluations have been done within 30 days of our anniversary date.”

Revella was asked if he felt insulted by the delay.

“Personally no,” he replied. “But it’s not my place.”
