Town Rec Center out for bid

The Town of Newburgh Board unanimously approved for MHE Engineering, its consultants, to go out to bid for the construction of the highly anticipated Recreation Center project. Bids will become available on February 28 and must be received by March 28 at 2 p.m. at the Town Clerk’s Office.

The Newburgh Recreation Center Project involves the construction of a new 37,000 square foot recreation center with site work including an on-lot septic system. The project has been planned to be built at Chadwick Lake Park located along Route 300 in the Town of Newburgh.

The site for construction would be, as reported, the former ice rink near the park pavilion and surrounding playground. Previous renderings showed a one-story multi-purpose building that would include an indoor walking track, a children’s room, workout spaces, a multi-purpose field and several basketball courts. The plans also included office spaces and other storage areas for the recreation department.

Within the notice on the town website, several bids for contracts have been listed which include general construction, mechanical construction, electrical construction and plumbing construction. A Pre-Bid Conference will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at 10 a.m. at the project site.
