Town planning board approves Route 52 gas station

Posted

After several meetings and deliberation, the Town of Newburgh Planning Board approved the site plan and proposed architectural look for the new Gasland Petroleum station on Thursday, August 18.

Kyle Bardwell of the Chazen Companies appeared before the planning board to address any additional questions from the public and board on the site. The project applicant seeks to demolish and expand a half acre property into a new commercial gas station/convenience store.

Water and sewer infrastructure from the town would be used by the gas station and the color scheme for the building will feature a light tan color scheme with stone and slate incorporated into the design.

Planning board members continued to raise questions about the specific types of trucks that would be used for the fuel delivery for the station. The applicant has conducted several tests on the site for WB 40 to WB 50 trucks. “I can’t say for certain what truck will be used on that specific day, sometimes it [the truck] changes, their routes change,” Bardwell stated to the board.

Patrick Hines of MHE Engineering added additional requirements following the vote such as reviewing Town Traffic Consultant Ken Wersted’s comments based on the truck movements. The town is still awaiting a New York State Department of Transportation response since sending them site plans and the applicant has proposed upon completion of construction of the project a top coat of asphalt for the entire property.
